Title : | Vertical Sectorization for UAM in 3D Aerial Network |

Journal : | IEEE Wireless Communications Letters |
Abstract : | The goal of this letter is to propose a vertical sectorization approach to managing multiple vertical sectors for urban air mobility (UAM) units. Unlike traditional cellular systems, the user terminal is located above the ground at various heights in a 3-dimensional network. The proposed vertical sectorization enhances the received signal power effectively through vertical alignment by applying multiple vertical sectors that take the heights of the UAM units into consideration. This approach involves new vertical sectorization systems that improve the vertical alignment between the BS and the UAM unit. In addition, we also propose a new frequency resource allocation scheme based on the height of the UAM unit for mitigating interferences generated by the vertical sectorization. Simulation results show that the proposed vertical sectorization schemes enhance throughput, and improve coverage probability by 25.15% compared to the conventional system. Furthermore, the proposed scheme has been verified through simulations to improve spectral efficiency more effectively as the number of UAM units increases. |
